Las Delicias offers an authentic, traditional Costa Rican experience. This luxury vacation is in the province of Puntarenas, the part of Costa Rica where the traditional culture has been least influenced by modernization and tourism, and the location of Latin America’s largest mangrove reserve and rainforest. It is large but unpretentious home set in an oil palm plantation, with a staff impeccably trained by the owner to serve guests at world-class standards. Las Delicias is rented to one family or group of friends at a time and can accommodate 12 guests. All meals, prepared and served by the irresistible husband-and-wife-team of Dalia and Victor, are included in the rate.

Location and Surroundings:
The nearest international airport is in Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose. While one can drive the scenic four-hour route through the mountains to Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, the more convenient way to reach Las Delicias is be 45-minute commercial flight from San Jose to Palmar Sud, which is only 10 minutes from the property. National parks and nature reserves are nearby.
This luxurious vacation home has all the personal touches of the multi-generational family that has enjoyed it for many years — photos of their time at the ranch, walls hung with their favorite riding and walking hats, several different sets of their very fine china and flatware, gorgeous table linens that are different for each dinner. Furniture is antique white wicker, cerulean blue fabrics and colorful Guatemalan woven rugs. There are six bedrooms, each with private bath. Serving as the daytime gathering place is a large “hammockarium”, open-air and cooled by the breezes coming from the nearby Pacific.
Experience and Activities:
Activities on the property include bicycle riding (both kids and adult bikes are available), with the gorgeous mountain scenery on one side. There is also a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a shuffleboard court. For more sedentary pleasure, a siesta-taker’s paradise of five hammocks on the shaded terrace. Long, almost-deserted national park beaches are about 30 minutes away by car. Horseback riding can be arranged on a nearby ranch, and at nearby waterfalls there are places to swim, jump and climb. Boat trips into rainforest mangroves are a highlight, where guests can see howler monkeys, orange-neck turtles, scarlet macaws, giant six-inch grasshoppers. This is a nature-lover’s delight.
