Sanctuare was founded in 1973 by William A. Faber, the former executive vice president of Rockresorts, Inc., the resort company founded by Laurance Rockefeller.
Owner and President of the Company since 1998 is John L. Steinle. Mr. Steinle began his career with Rockresorts after receiving his BA from Dartmouth College and MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. His almost twenty years with Rockresorts included management positions at Caneel Bay Plantation and Little Dix Bay in the Virgin Islands, Jenny Lake Lodge in the Grand Tetons, and in the Rockresorts corporate office in New York City.
Sanctuare now represents just over 20 extraordinary vacation residences and small resorts around the world. These properties are privately owned and are not a part of any chain. Each has a distinctive personality, but they share the highest of service and facilities standards. Common to all are their locations in wonderfully private places, which means that guests enjoy an experience of unusual quiet, natural beauty and serenity. Indeed, most of Sanctuare’s properties are rented in their entirety to just one family or group at a time, providing the ultimate in privacy for special gatherings of family or friends.
